11 Life Hacks That Worked For Me

These tips improved my business, savings, relationships, health, and mindset - and some just take 5 minutes to do

1. Having 3 to 6 months of living expenses saved up

As soon as possible, aggressively build this asset. You will feel extremely free. If you leave your job or your potential client ends up being a terrible person to work with - you have the freedom to tell them that you don't need their money. I highly recommend this.

2. Transferring Money Automatically Between Bank Accounts

With every paycheque or income you get from your sales, there are banks out there that can allocate a % of your income into your other bank accounts.

You can save a % of every pay to go into a savings account, for taxes, for taking direct profits, for long term investments, for short term trips, gift-giving... This has been a game-hanger for me and my savings.

3. Have the hard conversations

This has been one of the best decisions I've made that made my life so much better and lighter.

If you are feeling stuck, often you need to talk it out to understand more about your situation and get feedback.

With my girlfriend, we had the vulnerable conversations early and often. We got to know each others' boundaries and wants early on. This brought us closer in a very short amount of time.

4. Just avoid alcohol

You don't need the social pressure, nor the extra spending or the next-day hangover just to fit into your social circle. Your body treats alcohol like a poison anyway. Save yourself the hassle and just go alcohol-free for a 30 days and see how you feel.

Find a non-alcoholic drink that you enjoy (Kombucha, virgin cocktails, ciders...) and stick with it on outings instead. Your health and bank account will benefit.

5. Don't People-Please, It's a Trap

Do things for you. But still be mindful of others. It's impossible to please everybody. So make decisions based on what's best for you. Stick with your gut. This ends with less regrets and more satisfaction in your life.

6. Journal When You Feel Lost (with pen and paper)

You are likely to already know the answers to your problems. Sometimes the noise clogs our gears and blurs our vision. Journaling clears our mind and puts our thoughts onto paper through tangible words.

You can problem-solve your own situations if you just take a few moments to jot down - by hand - what is going on in your mind.

Why by hand? We slow down, we think about each word that we write down and gets us to focus. It just works.

7. Move Your Body

On days where I don't move at all, I feel sluggish and don't feel like doing anything. But after I move around, or go for a walk or exercise, the blood flows through my body and I feel more energized to move around even more. I tend to sleep better too.

It can be a bit tough to get into, but the rewards are so worth it. Start small and you will get to a healthy spot.

8. Read for 5 minutes

I never really got into reading until I got into personal development after getting my first job after university. It was then that I started to read things that I was curious about. I started buying books that seemed interesting to me.

I expanded my knowledge and got comfortable reading. Reading can help level up almost anything in your life. Just being aware of things can help you make better decisions and take action on bettering your life. At least, it was for me.

If you don't have a habit of reading yet, started with just 5 minutes per day, or 2 pages. And you will be well on your way.

9. Be useful with the right attitude

If you are useful to one person, and they transform only one thing in their lives, it can send a wave of impact to people indirectly.

As long as I can remember, I've admired people who shared useful and practical advice. It's interesting, and can make lives easier. This inspired me to become useful as often as possible and be a person of value. The more I did this, the more people came to me.

I highly recommend being useful when possible.

BUT, there is a big BUT here, don't impose your way of doing things over others. Attitude goes a long way. Great ideas can come from anywhere and you may be wrong at first. Share this with humility that you might be wrong.

10. Be resourceful

It is tempting to go for the NEW thing that gets released. However, we likely have something that can solve our current problem.

For example, it could be a new marketing course or book .... but chances are, I already have the principles of that in an existing course that I have forgotten about. I just need to search through my archive of courses or books I've purchased over the years and I already have what I need.

What is missing is just the action. Don't buy a new thing because that's what you want to do now. If it's coaching or implementing help that you need, then go for that.

More information is likely not what we need today, but rather actioning what we already know.

You may even have people in your circle who can help with your problem. All you need to do is ask around and you will leapfrog your way forward quicker than buying another new shiny thing.

11. Focus on the present

All the thinking and planning can lead to overwhelm, doubt or hope... but those are in the future. You cannot control the future. What you can control is the present moment.

When I've realized that the present moment is what can propel me forward, that's when I shifted easily into action.
